              Lak035 - Heather Lodge
This high-quality cabin sleeps up to 8 people, has excellent amenities and is located by the beautiful Lake Pielinen. The cabin was constructed using the principals of sustainable development and solar power is used to heat water in sunny weather. The cabin is uniquely laid-out in a U-shape and the decor and internal fittings include features such as soapstone floor tiles and under floor heating.

The cabin has a well-equipped small kitchen, an open plan lounge and dining area that looks out onto the  lake, sauna, shower, one double bedroom and two twin bedrooms. A sofa bed for two and an extra bed are also available if required. A large decked terrace faces the lake and provides an ideal setting for barbecues and al fresco meals on warm summer evenings.

The area is peaceful and ideal for relaxing, taking a rowing boat out onto the calm blue lake, cycling, fishing and walking. In winter, husky safaris, snowmobiling and horse and sleigh rides are available (please pre-book!). Cross-country skis can also be hired by prior booking. The rental price includes 3 bicycles and a fishing cage, while fishing permits can also be pre-arranged for a small charge. Catering services are available by prior arrangement.

Cabin amenities:
Electric sauna with changing and shower rooms, WC,  washing machine, fireplace and logs, microwave, electric oven and hobs, TV, video recorder, radio/CD player, shared pier, electric and under floor heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle, rowing boat, large decked terrace with garden furniture and a barbeque, hoover,  toaster, iron/ironing board, fridge
, cot, highchair and a car heating point.

The cabin includes a second wood burning lakeside sauna, that also has a separate living area with a fireplace, stove and crockery for relaxing after sauna. This sauna is shared with the cabin next door and it is customary for the two parties to use the sauna on alternate days.

Pets are allowed, but smoking is not. Bed linen and towels can be hired for €10 per person. Final clean in the cabin can be arranged on your behalf for €55.

Location:
The cabin is located in Vuonislahti, 90km from Joensuu Airport and 20km from the small town of Lieksa. A food shop and a restaurant are available in the Vuonislahti village 9km away. The shallow lake shore just 30m away is ideal for swimming for all ages and the nearest neighbour is an identical cabin 70m away.

The magnificent Koli National Park on the opposite side of Lake Pielinen famously inspired the well know Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Reach the park by driving around the lake or taking a car ferry straight across in summer. In winter, you can also use the safe 'Ice Road' and drive across the frozen lake! Visit Akka-Koli Hill to view the far reaching dense woods and Ukko-Koli Hill to admire the most breathtakingly beautiful view over the Lakeland Archipelago with its blue lakes and green tree-covered islands.

Koli Ski Resort has excellent cross-country skiing tracks, 5 downhill ski slopes and a Snow Park for snowboarding and tobogganing. All ski equipment can be rented from the resort's own rental shop and the resort cafe serves snacks and hot drinks.

Visit the former house and workshop of Eeva Ryynänen, one of Finland's most unique sculptors. Marvel at the extraordinary wood carvings that feature Finnish wildlife such as bears and owls and visit the wooden church (that she helped to build at the age of 74!), filled with examples of her skill and vivid imagination.

Ruunaa Nature Area just 40km away provides thrilling white-water rafting, canoeing and trekking, while children will love the Pikku Kili (Small Kiddy) Animal Park.

Joensuu 80km away provides an excellent day trip destination with its beautiful harbour, restaurants, cafes and shopping opportunities.
