This handsome lakeside cabin near Koli National Park has very good amenities and cosy decor. The first floor consists of an open plan living/sleeping area with a double bed, two single beds and two small  beds suitable for children. A lovely balcony that overlooks the lake just 30m away can be accessed from this area.

The ground floor has an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with a wood burning fireplace, sauna, shower room and a lake facing outdoor terrace ideal for outdoor dining. A sofa bed in the lounge provides additional beds for two people if required. 

Tranquil countryside surrounds offer many opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, picking wild berries and mushrooms, horse-riding, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, sledging, swimming and walking. 

Make a trip on your rowing boat to a deserted island or enjoy a round of golf on an 18-hole course just 28km away. Hire a snowmobile from the cabin owners for rides on the frozen lake or hire bicycles or mountain bikes in the nearby Koli village. In winter, cross-country skiing tracks start directly from the cabin and ice-swimming will also be possible on the frozen lake.

Cabin amenities:
Wood burning sauna with shower and changing rooms, WC, washing machine, fireplace and logs, microwave, electric oven and hobs, TV, radio, garden swing, electric heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, terrace and balcony with lake views, hoover, toaster, iron/ironing board, fridge/freezer, car heating point, child safety gate in stairs, outdoor barbecue area, badminton/volleyball net in the gardens, private pier with seats and a rowing boat. A baby bed and a high chair can be arranged by prior booking.

A separate wood burning lakeside sauna is provided just 15m from the lake shore. Enjoy the hot steam in the sauna and cooling dips in the lake in turns for a truly relaxing feeling!  

Pets are allowed, but smoking is not. Bed linen can be hired for £10 per person. Final clean in the cabin can be arranged on your behalf for £54. 

Location:
The cabin is located in Kontiolahti, 48km from Joensuu Airport. A car pick up and drop off service is available for €60 (one-way, maximum 4 passengers), if you do not wish to rent a car. 

A local food shop is available within a short driving distance, though a mobile food shop also stops nearby just 2km away every Monday and Thursday. The owner is happy to provide a shopping trip to the local supermarket for €25. The cabin is located on the sunniest side of the large Lake Höytiänen and the shallow lake shore is ideal for swimming for all ages. The nearest neighbour is another cabin 50m away. 

The magnificent Koli National Park just 30km away famously inspired the well know Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Walk to the Akka-Koli Hill to admire the far reaching dense green woods and then continue to the Ukko-Koli Hill for the most breathtakingly beautiful views over the Lakeland Archipelago with its blue lakes and green tree-covered islands. Do not forget to bring your camera! 

Koli Ski Resort in the National Park has excellent cross-country skiing tracks, 5 downhill ski slopes and a Snow Park for snowboarding and tobogganing. All ski equipment can be rented from the resort's own rental shop and the resort cafe serves snacks and hot drinks.

Joensuu 40km away provides an excellent day trip destination with its beautiful harbour, department stores, restaurants and street cafes. Enjoy a drink in Bar Boat Elina that docks in the harbour every summer and visit one of the museums or exhibitions that feature mostly Finnish art and photography. The cabin owner is happy to take you to Joensuu and back for €50 (one-way).   

How do I get there? 
Fly on Finnair from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Joensuu (48km from cabin) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport or use the car pick-up service provided by the cabin owners.

Fly low-cost on Blue1 from London Heathrow, Dublin,  Rome, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Nice, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, Athens or Oslo to Kuopio (150km) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport.
