OUR OPINION

Very cosy family cabin with a fantastic secluded location and beautiful lake views. The cabin offers good homely facilities and pretty Scandinavian decor within a short driving distance from the local amenities, Kajaani town and Vuokatti Ski Resort. The lakeside sauna, private pier and the beach are welcome add-ons in summer.

        Lak039 - Blue Lake Cottage
This pretty cabin near the popular Vuokatti Ski Resort can sleep up to 9 people in a fantastic secluded position on the shores of Lake Perkkiölampi surrounded by woods. The cabin has a kitchen and dining room, lounge with a log burning soapstone fireplace, sauna, shower room, terrace with lake views, double and twin bedrooms downstairs and an attic bedroom with 3 single beds and a balcony overlooking the lake. Additional two people can be accommodated on a sofa bed in lounge if required.

The cabin has very good amenities and cosy decor throughout, while the cabin surrounds offer excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, picking wild berries and mushrooms, fishing, swimming and cross-country skiing. Wildlife such as rabbits, birds and moose can be spotted in the area that also grows many rare plants and flowers.

Wilderness huts are dotted along the cross-country skiing tracks and walking trails and therefore offer ideal spots for picnics. Toboggans and sledges are available for children in winter and bicycles can be hired from the owners in summer.

Cabin amenities:
Electric sauna, shower, WC, washing machine, fireplace and logs, microwave, electric oven and hobs, TV, video recorder, radio, under floor and electric heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle, rowing boat, terrace, balcony, central hoover system, drying cupboard for wet ski suits, iron/ironing board, toaster, fridge/freezer, cot, highchair, potty, child safety gate in stairs, car heating point and an outdoor barbecue shelter.

The cabin also has a separate wood burning lakeside sauna and a private pier. The shallow lake shore only 20m from the cabin is ideal for swimming for all ages.

Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for £10 per person. Final clean in the cabin can be arranged on your behalf for £29.  Toilet and kitchen roll, soap, washing-up liquid and other cleaning products are included in the rental price.

Location:
The cabin is located in Korholanmäki, 20km from Kajaani Airport and 19km from Vuokatti Ski Resort. A small food shop that mainly sells meat products can be found 1km away, while larger supermarkets, shops, cafes and restaurants are located in Kajaani town 12km away.

Vuokatti Ski Resort has a year-round weekly programme of activities that range from guided  outdoor safaris to sightseeing tours around the area. Join a snowmobile or husky safari or try snowboarding, downhill or cross-country skiing, ice-fishing or snowshoe trekking. All ski equipment can be rented from the resort's own rental shop and a ski school operates on the slopes for the beginners. Children have their own playing area and safe ski slopes. A cafe serves snacks and hot drinks.

In December, do not miss the wonderful Christmas Village near Kuhmo about 90km away. The magical tour led by one of Santa's Elves will take you to the Santa's cave of treasures, through the land of elves and finally to meet Santa Claus himself in his log cabin.

Outside the ski season, the resort has good facilities for trekking, horse-riding, cycling, fishing, tennis and golf. Canoeing expeditions and safaris are organised during the summer months along the many rivers and wild river rapids that run through areas of beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. If you fancy learning to sail, join the Sailing School, that operates during the summer months and organises courses for beginners as well as the more experienced sailors.

Hiidenportti National Park nearby was created in 1982 to protect the unique wilderness in the area. Today the park offers an oasis of calm with beautiful scenery, particularly around the famous Hiidenportti Gorge where spectacular rock faces travel straight down for up to 20m. The park consists of thick pine woods, swamps and small lakes that provide suitable habitat for wildlife such as bears, lynxes, moose, beavers, wolves, wolverines, pine martens and numerous birds.

In summer, visit the ruins of Kajaani Castle, that was originally built in the early 1600's by the order of the King of Sweden Carl IX. The Castle today is the most northernmost castle in Finland, if not in the whole world.
