Lak052 - Berry Cottage The cabin has an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge, shower, lakeside sauna, wood burning fireplace, one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. A double bed in the living area is available for another two people for an additional charge, if required. The peaceful area offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, walking and picking wild berries and mushrooms in the woodland surrounding the cabin. Here you can enjoy the woods and the wilderness in a fantastic tranquil setting, that allows you to enjoy total peace and privacy. amenities: The cabin has a separate wood burning lakeside sauna just 20m from the lake shore and about 80m from the cabin. The sauna is ideal for enjoying the famous Finnish pastime of staying in the heat of the sauna and taking a cooling dip in the lake in turns for a truly relaxing feeling! Pets
are allowed, but cannot be left alone in the cabin. Smoking is not
allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for £10 per person.
Final clean
in the cabin can be arranged on your
behalf for £36. The Kuhmo area offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities and 80% of the region is covered by woodland. There are 460km of snowmobiling tracks, 300km each of signposted hiking and canoeing trails and plenty of cross-country skiing tracks throughout. The woodland wilderness inhabits lots of different species of wildlife including bears, moose, wolves, wolverines, different birds and even rare reindeers. Guided canoeing safaris and bear-watching expeditions are offered by local suppliers. If you enjoy nature walks, make sure you visit the tranquil Elimyssalo Nature Reserve just 20km away. This peaceful wilderness area consists of mainly old pine woods, swamps, lakes and varied nature trails, that allow you to explore the area and enjoy the beautiful scenery, silence and the clean, fresh air. Hiidenportti National Park nearby was created in 1982 to protect the unique wilderness in the area. Today the park offers an oasis of calm with beautiful scenery, particularly around the famous Hiidenportti Gorge where spectacular rock faces travel straight down for up to 20m. The park consists of thick pine woods, swamps and small lakes that provide suitable habitat for wildlife such as bears, lynxes, moose, beavers, wolves, wolverines, pine martens and numerous birds. In December, do not miss the wonderful Christmas Village near Kuhmo. The magical tour led by one of Santa's Elves will take you to the Santa's cave of treasures, through the land of elves and finally to meet Santa Claus himself in his log cabin. Kalevala Ski Resort 40km away offers good facilities for cross-country skiing, while the nearest ski slopes for downhill skiing are located in the popular Vuokatti Ski Resort (100km), that you could easily visit on a day trip.
