GUEST REVIEWS

"The cottage suited us so well. It's secluded location was just what I'd hoped for and we could truly relax there. The cottage itself was so comfortable with the bonus of two saunas, both of which we enjoyed depending on the weather. Our rowing trips on the lake, watching birds and foraging around the cottage for blueberries were very congenial highlights. Thank you for helping us have such a pleasant holiday."

A. DeVoil, Czech Republic

______________

"We really enjoyed our visit to Finland and the time we spent at the cabin was the best part of a delightful experience. The cabin is beautiful and the setting perfect. We enjoyed the peace and seclusion and spent a lot of time on the water. The cabin itself was well designed and well constructed. We enjoyed it so much we would really like to return again next year."

M. Baillie, England

            Lak059 - Bear's Cottage
This cosy cabin by beautiful Lake Saimaa has very good amenities and a bright Scandinavian pine interior. The cabin has an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge, wood burning fireplace, sauna, shower, changing room, one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and a sofa bed for two in lounge. The spacious terrace with a barbecue is ideal for alfresco dining in the beautiful secluded setting amongst the trees and the lake just 25m away.

The cabin surrounds are extremely peaceful and offer plenty of countryside charm as well as woodland for walking and plenty of fresh air. Take your rowing boat out to the calm lake and enjoy a picnic on one of the deserted islands on the largest lake in Finland.

Make sure that you join one of the many cruises in the area to explore the extensive Lakeland Archipelago with it's blue lakes and small tree-covered islands. In winter, snowmobile safaris are available in nearby Savonlinna, while snowshoe walking and ice-fishing are also popular.

Cabin amenities:
Electric sauna, shower, WC, washing machine, fireplace and logs, microwave, electric oven and hobs, TV, radio/CD player, private pier, garden swing, electric and under floor heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, rowing boat, two terraces, hoover, toaster, cot and high chair for a baby, fridge/freezer, fishing cage and an outdoor barbeque.

The cabin also includes a separate wood burning lakeside sauna that will be ideal for experiencing the famous Finnish pastime of enjoying the hot steam of sauna and swimming in the cooling lake in turns.

Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for £10 per person. Final clean in the cabin can be arranged on your behalf for £50.

Location:
The cabin is located in Parkumäki, 45km from Savonlinna Airport and 25km from the small village of Rantasalmi, where you will find a food shop, restaurant and a bank. The cabin is located just 25m from a very secluded lake shore and shallow waters that are ideal for swimming also for young children. The nearest neighbour is another cabin 250m away.

The cabin is located in Linnansaari National Park area that is formed of more than 130 islands and large areas of water making this area an ideal destination for all water lovers. Linnansaari National Park was created in 1956 to protect the spectacular archipelago and beautiful lake views and today the park is one of the few areas in the world where you can still spot endangered Saimaa seals.

Savonlinna with its cultural interests is located just 30km away. The town's lakeside position and harbour are particularly beautiful in summer when the town is bustling with visitors from all around the world.

Visit the handsome medieval Olavinlinna Castle, where guided tours are given daily in different languages, including English. The castle is positioned on a small island and you walk in along a long pier, that is periodically opened for passing cruise ships. The castle is open all year apart from public holidays and 15-25 December.

Punkaharju Ridge, famous for its extraordinary landscape comprising a myriad of islands and lakes, is located 55km away. Drive through the narrow roads surrounded by water for a truly beautiful scenery and visit the unique Retretti Art Centre that houses art in different forms in galleries  located partly underground (open daily approx. 1.6-27.8).

Children will love the Kesämaa (Summerland) Water and Adventure Park next door to Retretti (open daily approx. 5.6-12.8). Water slides, bouncy castles, climbing tracks and boats offer fun for the whole day.

The nearest ski resort is Ruunarinteet just 30km away. This small resort has 2km of cross-country skiing tracks and 6 ski slopes for downhill skiing. The fairly small ski slopes are suitable for beginners and one of them is reserved for children. All ski equipment can be hired from the resort's own rental shop and a small cafe serves snacks and hot drinks.
