       Lak083 - Hollow Birch Cabin
This pretty log cabin in the eastern part of the Lakeland is ideal for families. The cabin has a kitchen and dining area, lounge, sauna, shower room, wood burning fireplace, one double bedroom downstairs and three single beds in the attic bedroom upstairs. A pretty terrace and a balcony upstairs offer beautiful lake views. The cabin has a pretty lakeside location deep in the Lakeland countryside, though the local amenities are only a short drive away. 

The cabin surrounds are peaceful and the area offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities. Enjoy swimming, rowing your own boat, walking along the country lanes or go fishing, picking wild berries and mushrooms or try orienteering. Tennis and beach volleyball courts are in your use free of charge and golf is available on two courses within an 80km radius. 

In winter, learn to drive a snowmobile or rent your own for €130-150 per day, including all necessary equipment and protective clothing. Skis are available free of charge, if you wish to try cross-country skiing in the nearby tracks. 

Cabin amenities:
Wood burning sauna, shower, changing room, WC, washing machine, fireplace and logs, microwave, electric oven and hobs, TV, electric heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle, rowing boat, terrace and balcony with lake views, hoover, iron/ironing board, fridge/freezer, outdoor barbecue and a car heating point. A high chair and a baby bed can be arranged by prior booking. 

Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for €10 per person. Final clean in the cabin can be arranged on your behalf for €70. 

Location:
The cabin is located in a peaceful countryside setting in Tolosenmäki, 80km from Joensuu Airport and 15km from the small town of Kitee. You will find good local amenities including a restaurant and a bank in Kitee, whilst a food shop and a petrol station are also available nearer, just 8km away. 

The cabin is located just 20m from a sandy beach and a shallow lake shore, that is ideal for swimming for all ages. The nearest neighbour is located 35m away.       

The whole family will love a visit to Kitee Animal Park 13km away. The park has a wide variety of native Finnish wildlife, including brown bears, moose and lynxes (open daily 15.4-31.10). 

If shopping is more your cup of tea however, visit the Marimekko factory outlet for discounted fabrics and other products direct from this world famous Finnish brand, known particularly for its unique colourful flower designs.  

Punkaharju Ridge, famous for its extraordinary landscape, comprising a fascinating myriad of islands and lakes, is located 70km away and provides an excellent day trip destination. 

Enjoy driving through the  breathtakingly beautiful scenery and stop to visit the unique Retretti Art Centre that houses art in different forms in galleries  located partly underground (open daily 1.6-27.8.06).

Kesämaa Water and Adventure Park next door has water slides, bouncy castles and fun boast for children of all ages (open daily 5.6-12.8.06).

Joensuu about 80km away has beautiful harbour, bustling market place and a wide variety of department stores, restaurants, cafes and bars. Joensuu also has an interesting Orthodox church and a few good art museums, where you can admire the work of mainly Finnish artists.

Make a visit also to Savonlinna (80km) and its magnificent medieval Olavinlinna Castle, famous for hosting the annual International Opera Festival. The castle is surrounded by water and you walk inside along a pier, that is periodically opened for passing cruise ships. Join a guided tour in English all year round apart from public holidays and the period from 15-25 December.

Fly on Finnair from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Joensuu (80km from cabin) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport. 

Fly low-cost on Blue1 from London Heathrow, Dublin,  Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Madrid, Amsterdam, Berlin,  Hamburg, Barcelona,  Athens, Rome, Oslo, Nice or Paris to Helsinki (380km). Pick up a hire car at the airport. 

Fly low-cost on Ryanair from London Stansted, Liverpool, Dublin or Frankfurt to Tampere (420km). Pick up a hire car at the airport.
