OUR OPINION

A cosy and well equipped cabin in the lively Levi Ski Resort far above the Arctic Circle. Nice traditional decor and a good location near skiing and village amenities. Ideal particularly for all enthusiastic skiers and families with young children.

         Lap001 - Pinecone Cabin
This cosy cabin for up to 8 people is located in the popular Levi Ski Resort near all local amenities and the ski slopes. The cabin has an excellent standard of amenities and decor and the layout would ideally suit a family or two families sharing.

The cabin has a kitchen and dining room, large lounge, sauna, shower, wood burning fireplace and two large bedrooms. Both bedrooms have a double bed and bunk beds for two, while a fold-away baby bed for a child up to 2-3 years old is also available free of charge.

Levi is the largest ski resort in Finland and comes highly recommended for keen skiers, couples looking for an active holiday near nightlife and places to eat out, as well as families, who wish to stay near activities for children. Kids' Land offers daily fun and free organised activities for children of all ages, while babysitting is also available for an hourly rate.

Cabin amenities:
Electric sauna, shower, WC, washing machine, fireplace and logs, microwave, electric oven and hobs, TV, radio, CD player, electric heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, terrace, hoover, toaster, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, fridge/freezer, two car heating points, sheltered car parking, two (basic) bicycles, a high chair, potty and a small amount of toys for children. A video recorder or a dvd-player can be ordered for an extra charge.

Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be rented for £10 per person. Final clean in the cabin is included in the rental price.

Location:
The cabin is located in Levi Ski Resort, 16km from Kittilä Airport. A car is not a necessity as an Airport Bus runs between the airport and Levi for a small charge from/to every Finnair flight, whereas a free SkiBus operates hourly between the ski slopes and the cabin (bus stop 300m away) from mid-Nov to early May from 10am-7pm.  A good taxi service is also available.

The cabin is located in a peaceful residential area, just 2.5km from the Levi village and the ski slopes. The resort has 45 ski slopes, 5 slopes/parks for snowboarders, 26 ski lifts, a cable car, 230km of cross-country skiing tracks, 4 ski hire shops, a ski school, 25 restaurants and cafes, 3 supermarkets, an off-licence, chemist, post office, petrol station, First Aid and doctor's surgery, sports and souvenir shops, a chapel, spa complex, 3 gyms and a swimming pool.

Safari organisers in Levi offer snowmobiling, reindeer and husky safaris, horse-riding on Icelandic horses, hot-air ballooning, parasailing, kick sledging, go-carting on ice and much more. In December, a Santa Claus Safari is also available! The ski season in Levi usually lasts from October to early May and warm winter clothing can be hired locally, though many safaris include thermal clothing in the price.

Levi Golf and Country Club has a 9-hole course, where you can play golf under the Midnight Sun from June-July. Further 9 holes will open by summer 2007. Fishing, mountain biking and canoeing are other popular activities in Levi in the summertime.

Levi Reindeer Park consists of 170ha where reindeer wander freely during the summer months and where you can go trekking or Nordic walking. Guided expeditions introduce you to the reindeer and reindeer husbandry in the area, while a ski lift takes you to the top of the fell to admire the far reaching views of Lapland's wild nature.

The nearby 1020km² Pallas-Ylläs Fells National Park is the third largest national park in Finland. The park is a varied mixture of fells, woods and swamps and is said to have the cleanest air in Europe. The network of signposted walking and hiking trails covers a total of 320km, majority of which allows you to admire the majestic fells in the horizon (the highest fell in the park towers at 807m). Reindeer, bears and moose are common in the park, while wolves, wolverines and lynxes are occasional visitors.

How do I get there?
Fly on Finnair from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Kittilä (16km from cabin) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport or take a taxi to the cabin. Alternatively, take Airport Bus to Levi and a taxi from there to the cabin (2.5km).

Charter flights are available to Kittilä from London Heathrow on Saturdays during the winter season from Ski-Flights. Tel: 0870 830 8136. Pick up a hire car at the airport or take a taxi to the cabin.

Fly low-cost on Blue1 from London Heathrow, Dublin, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Hamburg, Barcelona, Madrid, Athens, Oslo, Nice or Paris to Rovaniemi (165km) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport.
