This pretty cabin located by the beautiful Saapunkijärvi Lake near Ruka Ski Resort can accommodate up to 8 people. The downstairs in the cabin consists of an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge, wood burning brick fireplace, sauna and shower department and a terrace. 

The upstairs has two twin/double bedrooms with large wardrobes and a balcony from where beautiful lake views can be admired. Four additional beds are available on two sofa beds in the lounge if required. The decor and amenities are modern and functional throughout, while large gardens with a swing and a sandbox are ideal for children's play. 

The cabin is located in a peaceful countryside setting just a few meters from a tranquil lake that is ideal for swimming, fishing and rowing. Bicycles and canoes can be hired from the cabin owners (please pre-book!), while fishing equipment, local fishing permits, toboggans and a short introductory snowmobile ride in winter are included in the rental price.  

Cabin amenities:
Electric sauna, shower, WC, washing machine, fireplace and logs, microwave, electric oven and hobs, TV, DVD player, radio, electric heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, lifejackets, hoover, toaster, iron/ ironing board, fridge/freezer and a car heating point. A cot and a high chair are available by prior request. A barbecue place, darts, garden furniture, a rowing boat and a floating pier boat (a combination of a pier and a boat) are provided in the large garden. 

Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for 12  euros per person. Final clean on your behalf is included in the rental price in 2011. Compulsory cleaning charge of 60 euros will apply in 2012. Toilet and kitchen roll, soap, washing-up liquid and other cleaning products are included in the rental price.

Location:
The cabin is located 7km from Kuusamo and just 4km from Kuusamo Airport. Complimentary car transfers between the airport and the cabin are available from the cabin owners, so a hire car is not essential. The cabin is situated just 25m from a shallow lake shore, that is suitable for swimming even for young children. The cabin owners are the nearest neighbours 30m away.

The lively Ruka Ski Resort is located 25km from the cabin and can be easily reached in a hire car or a taxi. Ruka has 28 ski slopes for downhill skiing, 3 half pipes and 2 streets for snowboarding, 18 ski lifts, a slope for moguls, 200km of cross-country skiing tracks, a ski school and two ski hire shops. 

Ruka village has 20 restaurants, bars and cafes, two supermarkets, a number of shops, taxi station, chemist, post office, children's playground and a kindergarten for 2-7 year olds. Babysitting is also available.   

In winter, snowmobiling, reindeer and husky safaris are available, while canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing and river rafting are popular activities in summer. Mountain bikes can be hired in the Ruka village and golf can be played year round under the Midnight Sun in summer and on snow in winter!   

Kuusamo town has a variety of shops and restaurants and there is a very interesting Nature Photography Centre at Karhuntassu (Bear's Paw) Tourist and Nature Centre, that stages permanent and temporary exhibitions centred around nature and wildlife in the Kuusamo area. Kuusamo Tropics Spa is also a popular attraction with its swimming pools, jacuzzis and saunas.

If you like wild nature, do not miss Oulanka National Park about 60km away. This park consists of wild river rapids such as the beautiful Kiutaköngäs that drops almost 14 meters, dense woods and low ravines that offer a varied hike for those wanting to attempt the famous 80km long trail called 'Karhunkierros' (The Bear's Trail). Guided river rafting and canoeing expeditions are available.    

How do I get there?
Fly on Finnair from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Kuusamo (4km from cabin) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport or use complimentary car pick-up service provided by the cabin owners.

Fly low-cost on Blue1 from London Heathrow, Dublin, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Hamburg, Barcelona, Madrid, Athens, Oslo, Nice or Paris to Rovaniemi (195km) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport.
