This huge log cabin is positioned on a hillside offering magnificent views towards the Ruka Fell and Ruka Lake. The cabin can accommodate up to 12 people comfortably and a very large window in the downstairs open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge provides plenty of light and fantastic fell views. 

The lounge has an unusual stone wood burning fireplace, while the sauna and shower department next door has a second smaller fireplace. Two en-suite twin/double bedrooms with large wardrobes and bedside tables, a separate WC and a large terrace facing the fells are also available in the ground floor. 

The first floor has three twin/double bedrooms with bedside tables and storage areas/walking wardrobes, a TV lounge, shower room with a WC, storage and a small kitchenette with a fridge and a coffee maker. 

A large balcony upstairs offers views of the tranquil surrounds, while a spacious landing can sleep four additional people on extra beds if required. The cabin is decorated with beautiful earthy colours.   

The surrounds are tranquil and grow tall pine trees and blueberries. Semi-wild reindeer can often be seen by the cabin particularly in summer. Ruka village nearby has supermarkets, bars, restaurants and excellent facilities for downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoe trekking. Ski season in Ruka lasts from October to early May.

Cabin amenities:
Electric sauna, 5 showers, 4 WCs, washing machine, tumble dryer, fireplace and logs, microwave, electric oven and hobs, 2 TVs, video recorder, radio/CD hi-fi, electric and under floor heating, dishwasher, 2 coffee makers, kettle, hairdryer, drying cupboard for wet ski suits, central hoover system, toaster, iron/ironing board, 2 fridges, freezer, cot, high chair and 2 car heating points. 

Two rowing boats are also in your use in two different locations, while a barbecue hut is shared with another cabin next door.    

Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for €14 per person. Final clean in the cabin can be arranged to be done on your behalf for €90. Toilet and kitchen roll, soap, washing-up liquid and other cleaning products are included in the rental price.

Location:
The cabin is located in Ruka, just 6km from Ruka Ski Resort where you will find supermarkets, restaurants, petrol stations, bars, souvenir shops and a fitness centre. The cabin is situated 1km from the nearest lake and 100m from the nearest neighbour. 

Kuusamo Airport is located 30km away and the Airport Bus operates between the airport and Ruka resort from/to every Finnair flight. 

The lively Ruka Ski Resort has 28 ski slopes for downhill skiing, 3 half pipes and 2 streets for snowboarding, 18 ski lifts, a slope for moguls, 200km of cross-country skiing tracks, a ski school and two ski rental shops. 

Ruka village has 20 restaurants, bars and cafes, two supermarkets, a number of shops, taxi station, chemist, post office, children's playground and a kindergarten for 2-7 year olds. Babysitting is also available.   

In winter, snowmobiling, reindeer and husky safaris are available in Ruka, while canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing and river rafting are popular activities in summer. Mountain bikes can be hired and golf can be played year round under the Midnight Sun in summer and on snow in winter!   

Kuusamo town 27km away has a variety of shops and restaurants and there is a very interesting Nature Photography Centre at Karhuntassu (Bear's Paw) Tourist and Nature Centre, that stages permanent and temporary exhibitions centred around nature and wildlife in the Kuusamo area. Kuusamo Tropics Spa is also a popular attraction with its swimming pools, jacuzzis and saunas.     

If you like wild nature, do not miss the rugged Oulanka National Park 30km away. The park consists of wild river rapids, dense woods and low ravines that offer a varied hike for those wanting to attempt the famous 80km long 'Karhunkierros' (The Bear's Trail). Beginners will enjoy the 10km 'Pieni Karhunkierros' (The Small Bear's Trail), Kiutaköngäs River Rapids, Nordic walking, canoeing and river rafting safaris.   

How do I get there?
Fly on Finnair from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Kuusamo (30km from cabin) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport or take a taxi to the cabin.

Fly low-cost on Blue1 from London Heathrow, Dublin, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Hamburg, Barcelona, Madrid, Athens, Oslo, Nice or Paris to Rovaniemi (210km) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport.
