            Lap033 - Crooked Cottage
This spacious cabin is one of eight located by Lainio River in the popular Ylläs Ski Resort that is centred around the majestic 718m high Ylläs Fell. The cabin has an open plan kitchen and dining area, large lounge, 2 WCs, sauna and shower room. Two bedrooms have bunk beds for four and one bedroom has a double bed.  

The cabin village has its own unique barrel-shaped sauna as well as volleyball and badminton courts. Canoes can be hired from the owners (please pre-book!), while fishing and ice-fishing are also possible. 

Cross-country skiing tracks start directly from the village in winter, whilst the nearest snowmobiling tracks can be accessed just 200m away. Children will love tobogganing, while adults may wish to try ice-swimming in a hole on ice.

Cabin amenities:
Electric sauna, shower room, 2 WCs, fireplace and logs, washing machine, microwave, electric oven and hobs, TV, video recorder, radio/CD player, electric heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, hoover,  fridge/freezer, toaster, cot, high chair, car heating point and a drying cupboard for wet ski suits. 

The cabin village has a pier to the river, barbecue hut and swings for children for your use free of charge. 

Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for €12 per person. Final clean in the cabin is complimentary.

Location:
The cabin is located 20km from Kittilä Airport and 40km from Kolari Railway Station. Good local amenities and ski slopes are located about 10km away in Ylläsjärvi village in popular Ylläs Ski Resort. 

Airport Bus meets every Finnair and Blue1 flight arriving in Kittilä and operates between the airport and the cabin during the peak ski season from December to April. Night trains from Helsinki and Tampere arrive in Kolari with a bus connection to Ylläsjärvi. 

Ylläs Ski Resort is a well developed resort that offers a wide variety of winter outdoor activities. The resort has 320km of cross-country skiing tracks and 43 varied ski slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding. Snowshoe trekking and snowmobile, reindeer and husky safaris are also widely available. The ski season in Ylläs lasts from November to the beginning of May. 

In summer, the area offers excellent opportunities for canoeing, fishing, mountain-biking, hiking and horse-riding. The resort has a variety of restaurants and bars that serve traditional Lappish food as well as the usual international favourites. 

In winter, visit the 1000m² Snow Village just 4km from the cabin. The village features magnificent snow art, sculptures and the world's largest igloo! Don't miss a wander in the ice maze before heading for a warming hot meal in the restaurant next door or a drink in the Ice Bar. The Snow Village is open daily from 1st of December onwards 10am-10pm.

Ylläs-Aakenus Conservation Area 10km away forms part of the Pallas-Ylläs Fells National Park. The 380km² area consists of clear lakes, dense woods, swamps and wild fells. Hike along the hundreds of kilometres of clearly marked routes or simply enjoy bird watching, fishing or picking wild blueberries, lingonberries and cloudberries. 

If you prefer to explore the area on your hire car, do not miss driving along the scenic Fell Road (Tunturitie), that starts from the Äkäslompolo village by the Ylläs Fell and takes you through the extraordinary scenery of fells and lakes all the way to the Pallas Fells and onwards along the Ounas River to Enontekiö (Hetta). 

How do I get there?
Fly on Finnair from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Kittilä (20km from cabin) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport or take Airport Bus to the cabin (December-April only). 

Fly on Blue1 from London Heathrow, Dublin, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Hamburg, Barcelona, Madrid, Athens, Oslo, Nice or Paris to Kittilä via Helsinki.

Charter flights are available to Kittilä from London Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol on Sundays and from London Heathrow on Saturdays during the winter season from Ski-Flights. Tel: 0870 830 8136. Pick up a hire car at the airport or take a taxi to the cabin.

Take a night train from Helsinki or Tampere to Kolari (40km) and a bus connection from there to Ylläsjärvi village (30 mins), followed by a taxi to the cabin.
