Windy Fell Cabins All cabins have modern Scandinavian decor and furniture, as well as a good standard of amenities. An open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with a wood burning fireplace create a homely atmosphere and two twin/double bedrooms and a third bedroom with bunk beds for two offer comfortable sleeping arrangements. A sauna and a shower room are also provided. A mountain bike can be rented for £10.50 a day (please pre-book!). Cross-country skiing and jogging tracks start straight from the cabins, while the downhill ski slopes are only 2km away. Cross-country skis and snowshoes can be hired by prior booking.

Location: The Airport Bus operates from/to every Finnair flight arriving and departing from Ivalo Airport to Saariselkä for about €9/single. A SkiBus service is also available in the village and operates between the cabin areas, the village centre and the ski slopes during the winter ski season. The atmospheric Saariselkä Ski Resort is formed of two fells, where you will find a total of 11 ski slopes, a super halfpipe and a street for snowboarders, 6 ski lifts, 230km of cross-country skiing tracks, toboggan hills, snowmobiling tracks, a ski equipment rental shop, ski school, 2 ski restaurants, a souvenir shop and a free SkiBus service. The Saariselkä village also has a number of shops selling souvenirs and local handicrafts, a well stocked supermarket, a variety of different types of restaurants and bars, heated indoor swimming pools and even a chapel, where services are held regularly, including at Christmas time. Car hire and taxis are also available. If you wish to take part in organised safaris and other outdoor activities, you will be spoilt for choice. Snowmobiling, reindeer and husky safaris, ice-fishing, mountain biking, canoeing and hiking are all widely available. Santa Safaris are also available by prior booking, while Santa can also be met in his Saariselkä office or in your own cabin! For hikers, the huge 2550 sq.km Urho Kekkonen National Park nearby offers majestic fells, large swamps, dense woods and wilderness. Reindeer herding is common in the park and you may well see reindeers and reindeer herdsmen in their daily work during your visit. Other inhabitants in the park include bears, wolverines, wolves, lynxes, rabbits, moose, foxes, pine martens, stoats, weasels and 130 different types of birds, while otters can also be spotted near water. In addition to hiking, mountain biking and horse-riding are also popular activities.
