            Lap156 - Northern Star 2 
Northern Star 2 is located in Äkäslompolo village in Ylläs Ski Resort. The cabin is ideal for a couple or a small family and has an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area, sauna, shower room and a mezzanine upstairs with one double bed and two single beds. The sitting area has a sofa bed for additional two people. 

This cabin would suit anyone wanting to stay in a winter wonderland within a short walking distance of village amenities, ski slopes and cross-country skiing tracks. The cabin is located in the end of a road, which ensures a peaceful setting and safety for small children.

Cabin amenities:
Electric sauna, shower, WC, washing machine, microwave, electric oven and hobs, digital TV, radio/CD player, electric heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle, hoover, toaster, fridge and a freezer shelf, iron/ironing board, drying cupboard for wet ski suits, car heating point, child safety gate in stairs, an outdoor storage area, veranda and a parking spot.   

Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for €21 per person. Final clean on your behalf at the end of the rental period is compulsory and is charged at €54.    

Location:
The cabin is located 45km from Kittilä Airport and 40km from Kolari Railway Station. All local amenities including shops, restaurants and bars are located within an easy walking distance in Äkäslompolo village, whereas the nearest ski slopes are located about 4.5km away.

Airport Bus meets all Finnair and Blue1 flights arriving in Kittilä and operates between the airport and Äkäslompolo village from December to April. SkiBus service operates between the village and the ski slopes and the nearest ski bus stop is located just 300m from the cabin. Night trains from Helsinki and Tampere arrive in Kolari with a bus connection to Äkäslompolo. 

Ylläs Ski Resort is a well developed resort that offers a wide variety of winter outdoor activities and ski season runs from November to early May. The resort has 320km of cross-country skiing tracks and 43 varied ski slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding. Snowshoe trekking, snowmobiling and reindeer and husky safaris are also available. In summer, the area offers excellent opportunities for canoeing, fishing, mountain-biking, hiking and horse-riding.  

In winter, visit the 1000m² Snow Village in neighbouring Ylläsjärvi about 10km away. The village features magnificent snow art, sculptures and the world's largest igloo. Don't miss wandering in the ice maze before heading for a warming meal in the restaurant or a quick drink in the Ice Bar. The Snow Village is open daily from 1st of December onwards 10am-10pm. 

Ylläs-Aakenus Conservation Area 15km away forms part of the Pallas-Ylläs Fells National Park. The 380km² area consists of clear lakes, dense woods, swamps and wild fells. Hike along the hundreds of kilometres of clearly marked trails or simply enjoy bird watching, fishing or picking blueberries, lingonberries and cloudberries. 

If you prefer to explore the area on a hire car, do not miss driving along the scenic Fell Road (Tunturitie), that starts from Äkäslompolo village and takes you through the extraordinary scenery of fells and lakes all the way to the Pallas Fells and onwards along Ounas River to Enontekiö (Hetta). 

How do I get there?
Fly on Finnair from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Kittilä (45km from cabin) via Helsinki. Pick up a hire car at the airport or take Airport Bus to Äkäslompolo village (December-April only), followed by a taxi to the cabin.

Fly on Blue1 from London Heathrow, Dublin, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Hamburg, Barcelona, Madrid, Athens, Oslo, Nice or Paris to Kittilä via Helsinki.

Charter flights are available to Kittilä from London Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol on Sundays and from London Heathrow on Saturdays during the winter season from Ski-Flights. Tel: 0870 830 8136. Pick up a hire car at the airport or take a taxi to the cabin.

Take a night train from Helsinki or Tampere to Kolari (40km) and a bus connection from there to Äkäslompolo village (30 mins).
