- Arctic Lodge 1 The cabin has three floors and there is a contemporary kitchen with a breakfast table, dining area, lounge with a beautiful stone fireplace, entrance hall, WC and two en-suite twin/double bedrooms on the ground floor. The lower ground floor has a utility room, sauna, shower room, second sitting room with a second wood burning fireplace and one single en-suite bedroom, while the top floor has three further en-suite twin/double bedrooms. A set containing a travel baby bed, high chair, potty and a baby bath can be arranged by prior request. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen, towels, hire of bathrobes and final clean are included in the rental prices. Location: The atmospheric Saariselkä Ski Resort is formed of two fells, where you will find a total of 11 ski slopes, a super halfpipe and a street for snowboarders, 6 ski lifts, 230km of cross-country skiing tracks, snowmobiling tracks, a ski hire shop, ski school, 2 ski restaurants, a souvenir shop and a free SkiBus service (the nearest bus stop is about 500m away). Saariselkä village also has a number of shops selling souvenirs and local handicrafts, a well stocked supermarket, a variety of different types of restaurants and bars, heated indoor swimming pools and a chapel where services are held regularly, including at Christmas time. If you wish to take part in organised safaris and other outdoor activities, you will be spoilt for choice. Snowmobiling, reindeer and husky safaris, ice-fishing, mountain biking, canoeing and hiking are all widely available. Santa Claus Safaris are also available by prior booking. For hikers, the huge 2550 sq.km Urho Kekkonen National Park nearby offers majestic fells, large swamps, dense woods and wilderness. Reindeer herding is common in the park and you may well see reindeer and reindeer herdsmen in their daily work during your visit. Other inhabitants in the park include bears, wolverines, wolves, lynxes, rabbits, moose, foxes, pine martens, stoats, weasels and 130 different types of birds, while otters can also be spotted near water. Hiking, mountain biking and horse-riding are popular activities.
