Winter safaris in Levi - December 2009 to April 2010 

We strongly recommend that you pre-book all your safaris as demand can be very high particularly in December and during the peak ski season from February-March.

Pre-booking will also allow you to plan your holiday better, as you will not have to waste precious holiday time locally at the resort trying to arrange safaris for your party at the last minute. We are partnered with experienced local safari companies and can easily pre-book all your preferred safaris prior to your departure to Finland, so you can concentrate on enjoying your holiday once in Finland.   

Santa Claus Safari - Monday to Friday in December 2009

Experience an exhilarating snowmobile ride to Santa's rustic log cabin, where you will meet Santa Claus himself. Children are welcome to give Santa letters or wish lists for presents and photographs can be taken of Santa with children (bring your own camera!). A short reindeer ride (about 200m) with Santa and his Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer follows and afterwards hot drinks and Christmas cakes/donuts will be available. Return to Levi on snowmobiles. The safari covers about 25km and lasts 2-3 hrs. The programme with Santa Claus lasts about 30 minutes. 

The safari includes snowmobile hire, use of helmets, petrol, driving tuition, insurance (personal excess max. €600), hire of warm clothing, services of a professional English speaking guide, a reindeer ride, visit to Santa, hot drinks and Christmas cakes. Each snowmobile can be driven by two adults (driver and passenger), while children will be seated in sleighs that will be pulled by snowmobiles.

Over the Fells Snowmobile Safari

A 1.5-2 hour scenic snowmobile safari through the snowy landscape and up the 531m high Levi Fell. Admire the picturesque scenery and the magnificent views that are at their best on a clear sunny day, when you can see all the way to the neighbouring fells of Ylläs, Pallas and Kumpu. Enjoy a hot drink and a bun on top of the Levi Fell before descending back to Levi via the beautiful Immeljärvi Lake. The safari covers about 30km. 

The safari includes snowmobile hire, use of helmets, petrol, driving tuition, insurance (personal excess max. €600), hire of warm clothing, services of a professional English speaking guide, hot drinks and buns. Each snowmobile can be driven by one adult (no passenger) or by one adult sharing with a child. This safari is operated without a sleigh for small children, so the minimum age required is approx. 7 years. 

Please note, you must be at least 15 years of age and hold a driving licence to drive a snowmobile.

Combined Reindeer and Snowmobile Safari

This 3-4 hour exciting safari starts with a snowmobile ride to the local reindeer farm, where your mode of transport will change to a reindeer sleigh for a fun ride through the snowy landscape. Afterwards, pastries and hot drinks will be available before your return journey again on snowmobiles. Enjoy a picturesque route up to the top of the 531m high Levi Fell, where the neighbouring fells of Ylläs, Pallas and Kumpu can be seen on a clear day. The safari covers about 50km on snowmobiles and 1km on a reindeer sleigh.  

The safari includes snowmobile hire, use of helmets, petrol, driving tuition, insurance (personal excess max. €600), hire of warm clothing, services of a professional English speaking guide, a reindeer ride, hot drinks and pastries. Each snowmobile can be driven by one adult (no passenger) or by one adult sharing with a child. This safari is operated without a sleigh for small children, so the minimum age required is approx. 7 years.

Snowmobile Safari to Husky Farm

This 4-5 hour adventurous safari starts with a snowmobile ride to the local husky farm, where your mode of transport will change to a husky sleigh for a speedy, exhilarating husky ride. A sleigh is provided for children, while adults can also ride the huskies themselves. Afterwards sausages and hot drinks will be served by an open fire before your return journey back on snowmobiles. The safari covers the distance of about 40km on snowmobiles and 8km on huskies.

The safari includes snowmobile hire, use of helmets, petrol, driving tuition, insurance (personal excess max. €600), hire of warm clothing, services of a professional English speaking guide, a husky ride, hot drinks and grilled sausages. Each snowmobile can be driven by one adult (no passenger) or by one adult sharing with a child. Small children can be placed in a sleigh that will be pulled by a snowmobile.

Note: Snowmobile transfer to the husky farm across Ounasjoki River may not be safe in December (thin ice!) and car transfers may then be provided instead.

Snowmobile Safari with Lunch

A thrilling snowmobile safari that includes a hearty, traditional Lapp lunch. The lunch will usually be either salmon soup and hot pancakes or reindeer stew and a hot drink, while a vegetarian lunch will also be available by prior booking. The safari covers about 55km and lasts 3-4 hours.

Aurora Safari in Search of Northern Lights

This atmospheric safari takes place when the darkness falls and it may be possible to see the magical northern lights light up the sky. Head to the snowy wilderness on snowmobiles led by a professional guide experienced in spotting the famous aurora borealis and enjoy a hot drink by a campfire. The safari covers 35km, lasts 2-3 hours and is available usually on Monday evenings.

The safari includes snowmobile hire, use of helmets, petrol, driving tuition, insurance (personal excess max. €600), hire of warm clothing, services of a professional English speaking guide and hot drinks. Each snowmobile can be driven by two adults (driver and passenger) or by one adult sharing with a child. Small children can be placed in a sleigh that will be pulled by a snowmobile.

Note: The sightings of northern lights are not guaranteed as they occur naturally when the weather conditions in the sky are favourable.

Snowmobile Safari to Reindeer Farm

The safari starts with a thrilling snowmobile ride to the local reindeer farm, where hot drinks and cakes will be served. An optional reindeer sleigh ride is also available for those, who wish to experience this traditional Lapp mode of transport. Return again on snowmobiles. The safari covers about 25km and lasts 1.5-2 hours. 

The safari includes snowmobile hire, use of helmets, petrol, driving tuition, insurance (personal excess max. €600), hire of warm clothing, services of a professional English speaking guide, hot drinks and cakes. Each snowmobile can be driven by one adult (no passenger) or by one adult sharing with a child. Small children can be placed in a sleigh that will be pulled by a snowmobile.

Ice-Fishing Excursion on Snowmobiles

Enjoy a thrilling snowmobile ride to a nearby lake, where you will be served hot drinks and snacks either in a traditional Lapp hut or by an open fire outdoors (depending on location). Then try the traditional Lappish way of fishing through a hole on a frozen lake. All fish caught will be cooked on an open fire using traditional cooking methods. The excursion covers about 25km on snowmobiles and lasts 2-3 hrs.

The excursion includes snowmobile hire, use of helmets, petrol, driving tuition, insurance (personal excess max. €600), hire of warm clothing, services of a professional English speaking guide, use of all ice-fishing equipment, hot drinks and snacks. Each snowmobile can be driven by one adult (no passenger) or by one adult sharing with a child.

Snowmobile Safari to Art Gallery

Enjoy an exhilarating snowmobile ride along the snowy landscape to the nearby village of Pontso, where a traditional Lapp lunch will be served at Reijo Raekallio's art gallery. You will have an opportunity to enjoy the art exhibited after the lunch before returning back to Levi again on snowmobiles. The safari covers about 80km or 100km depending on the route chosen.  

One snowmobile per one adult, or one adult and a child. The safari includes snowmobile hire, use of helmets, petrol, driving tuition, insurance (personal excess max. €600), hire of warm clothing, services of a professional English speaking guide and a lunch. Each snowmobile can be driven by one adult (no passenger).
