Snowmobile Safari to Reindeer Camp

This thrilling safari covers about 30km and includes a visit to a local reindeer camp. The owner of the camp will give you a tour and tell you about life on the farm. After Lappish lasso throwing and a short course in reindeer driving, you get to sit on a sleigh and drive a reindeer for a short circuit. Afterwards you will receive a reindeer driving diploma and be served with coffee and something sweet.

This 3-hour safari includes snowmobile hire, driving tuition, petrol, hire of warm thermal clothing, snowmobile insurance (personal excess €550), services of a professional English speaking guide, snacks and hot drinks.

Please note, you must be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid driving licence to drive a snowmobile.

This safari is available from Monday to Saturday at 10.00 (10am) or 14.00 (2pm). 

Northern Lights Snowmobile Safari

Enjoy a 40km memorable evening snowmobile safari in an enchanting blue twilit forest. Darkness creates an atmospheric setting for this safari and if the sky is clear and you are lucky, you may well see northern lights and thousands of stars twinkling in the sky. Hot drinks and buns will be available by a fire.

The safari lasts about 4 hours and includes snowmobile hire, driving tuition, petrol, hire of warm thermal clothing, snowmobile insurance (personal excess €550), services of a professional English speaking guide and hot drinks. This safari is driven one person per snowmobile. Not suitable for children under 12 years old. 

Note that Northern Lights are a natural phenomena and although they can be seen roughly on 180 days of the year (if the sky is clear), sightings during the safari are not guaranteed..

This safari is available on Thursdays at 18.00 (6pm).

Husky, Reindeer and Snowshoe Adventure

Learn all about the lives and habits of adorable huskies and reindeer. Experience a 5km husky ride (2 persons / sledge)though beautiful winter scenery and enjoy a short reindeer ride that will make you want to know more about these gentle animals. Finally, feel like part of a winter fairytale by snowshoeing in a magical snow-covered spruce forest. A coffee break will be taken by a campfire.  

This 3-4 hour excursion includes hire of warm thermal clothing, snowshoe hire, husky and reindeer rides, services of a professional English speaking guide, coffee and a small bun. 

This safari is available on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10.00 (10am).

Snowmobile Safari with Ice-Fishing

This safari combines two great Finnish hobbies - snowmobiling and ice-fishing. You will rides snowmobiles through beautiful snow-covered forests and icy lakes with your experienced fishing guide. The guide will show you how to fish trhough a hole on the frozen lake and you may catch perches, whitefish, pikes, graylings and even large trouts. Coffee and buns will be available during the safari.

Snowshoe Hike to Riisitunturi Fell (Trekking Destination of the Year 2010)

Transfer by car to Riisitunturi National Park in Posio, where you can experience a 4km snowshoe hike to Riisitunturi Fell. Snow covered trees and amazing views to Kitkajarvi Lake from Riisitunturi Fell are something you will not forget for a long time. Coffee break and snacks are included.  

Duration with transfers is about 6 hours and the excursion includes car transfers, snowshoe hire, coffee, snacks, hire of warm clothing and services of a professional English speaking guide.

This excursion is available from Monday to Saturday at 10.00 (10am).

Snowmobile Safari near to the Russian Border

Experience a challenging 6 hour snowmobile safari to the top of the magnificent Kuntivaara arctic hill, which is crowned with trees thickly covered in snow. The route takes you near to the Russian border to an area of outstanding natural beauty. The breathtaking scenery of the arctic wilderness will stay in your memory long after the trip. A soup lunch and coffee will be served in a cosy restaurant during the safari. This safari covers about 100km and is driven one person per snowmobile. Not suitable for children under 12 years old.

Husky Express

Get to know the lovable huskies. Learn how to drive the huskies and enjoy a memorable journey of 10km or 20km (2 persons / sledge). Coffee and buns will be available by a camp fire.     

These safaris last 2-4 hours with transfers from Ruka. Safaris include hire of warm thermal clothing, husky rides, transfers, coffee, buns and services of a professional English speaking guide. 

Safaris are available on Fridays and Saturdays at 10.00 (10am).  

Snowshoe Hike and Ice Fishing

Transfer by car to Iisakki Village where you can enjoy snowshoe trekking through the snowy forest to a beautiful frozen lake where you can try a spot of ice fishing. You may catch perches, whitefish, pikes or even graylings. Coffee will be available.

Lappish Dinner

Traditional Lappish dinner in beautiful surrounds. Welcome drinks (non alcoholic) and a delicious traditional meal will make your day. During the evening you will get a short introduction to Finnish language and you can test your knowledge of Finland and Kuusamo in a quiz.  

This excursion lasts about 3 hours and includes food and non alcoholic drinks. 

The excursion is available on Wednesdays at 18.00 (6pm).

Igloo Night

Our safari partner in Ruka invites you to experience an exotic night in an igloo in their Ice Village. Four igloos for two people to share and one igloo for four people to share will be built by the end of the year to a secluded location in the vicinity of Iisakki's House and the nearby lakeside sauna. Sleeping bags and appropriate clothing will ensure that you will stay warm even in the harshest winter conditions. If however you will feel uncomfortable at any time, you have an opportunity to move indoors for the rest of the night. In the morning after the arctic experience in your igloo, a plentiful breakfast will await. Warm sauna is also available for additional charge of 10 euros per person.

The igloos have toilet facilities, but no running water. The igloos have real beds with real mattresses. There are also curtains as a door in every igloo. Inside the igloo, the temperature stays at steady -5 to -8 Celsius regardless of how cold it is outside.

It is recommended that you will wear thermal or fleece underwear in your sleeping bag. Wearing several layers of clothing is a good idea. A hat and warm shoes are also necessary. Take extra clothing with you, as you may need it. Overalls and boots can be hired for additional charge of 8 euros per night.

The igloos are located in Iisakki Village by Lake Rukajarvi only 6km from Ruka centre and 20km from Kuusamo. The village courtyard includes log cabins, a country barn, sauna at the lakeside and a small Santa Shop. Village's main building Iisakki's House operates as a safari restaurant.

The igloo accommodation prices include breakfast, sleeping bags and towels. Snowshoes, toboggans and outdoor camping areas are also in your free use during your stay in the Ice Village.

The igloo accommodation is available 1 January-1 April 2012 subject to suitable weather conditions. The check-in time in the igloos is 16.00 (4pm) unless otherwise agreed, while the check-out time is 12.00 (mid-day).    

The igloo night experience is available from Monday to Saturday.

Trip to Rovaniemi

Independent trip to Lapland's capital Rovaniemi to visit the Arctic Circle and the world famous Santa Claus Village. You may also visit the excellent Arktikum museum to view a variety of exhibits from Lapland and the Arctic regions. Duration including transfers is about 9-10 hours.

Please note that this excursion is operated without a guide and only transfers are included. No child reductions.
