Sou041-043 - Wild
Berry Cabins The cabins are located 100m apart in a quiet position surrounded by pine trees. There is a kiosk and a restaurant in the area where breakfast and lunch can be enjoyed in summer (mid-June to mid-August). Dinner can be ordered to your cabin by prior arrangement. There is a lake and a sandy beach about 200-300m from the cabins, where you will find a barbecue area, picnic tables, chairs and a small pond for salmon fishing. The area also has its own Lapp hut and a wilderness picnic area, where you can cook simple meals and make coffee over a fire. A lakeside sauna with its own beach can be booked for your private use locally. Scooters (2), snowmobiles (2) and cross-country skis are available for hire and in winter cross-country skiing and snowmobiling tracks run through the woods and the frozen lake near the cabins (subject to snow). Woodland nature trails in the area are ideal for walks in spring, summer and autumn. Two hire cars are available for day trips in the area.
Cabin
amenities: Pets and smoking are not allowed. Bed linen and towels can be hired for €10 per person. Final clean in the cabin is included in the rental price. Location: The cabins are located near Päijänne National Park, that consists almost completely of areas that can only be reached via waterways. The park forms a small archipelago of steep rocks, sandy ridges and small rocky islands. The Lammi area offers small villages and charming grey, stone churches to explore, but if you are interested in walking and nature, do not miss the Evo Nature Reserve just 10km away. The reserve covers 8500 hectares of woods, swamps, small lakes and ridges. Follow one of the clearly marked trails to explore this fascinating area and try to spot a lynx, beaver, flying squirrel, eagle, owl, swan or perhaps a capercaillie. Hämeenlinna 50km away is worth a visit for its many shops, restaurants, art and history museums and the fantastic medieval Häme Castle, where you can join a tour in English (hourly from May to mid-August, by prior booking at all other times). Visit also the first home of Jean Sibelius, the famous Finnish composer, who spent his childhood in the town. Tampere about 100km away provides an ideal day trip destination. The bustling city boasts a number of attractions, including the second biggest amusement park in Finland. Särkänniemi has plenty of rides, a dolphinarium, aquarium, planetarium, children's zoo, the highest observation tower in the Nordic countries and even an art museum. Visit also the curious Moominvalley Museum in the centre of the town to view Moomin books, illustrations, figurines and a computer enabled virtual tour of the famous Moomin House. Sappee Ski Resort is located about 60km away. The resort has 10 ski slopes for downhill skiing, a network of cross-country skiing tracks and a 'Snow Park' for tricks by snowboards and skis. Guided snowmobile safaris, horse-riding and snowshoe trekking are available and a ski school operates for beginners. All ski equipment can be hired from the resort's own rental shop. How
do I get there? Fly on Finnair or BA from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh or Dublin to Helsinki to Helsinki (150km). Pick up a hire car at the airport. Fly low-cost on Blue1 from London Heathrow, Dublin, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Hamburg, Barcelona, Madrid, Athens, Oslo, Nice or Paris to Helsinki. |
