The star ratings below offer guidance for what you are likely to find in a cabin rated a certain amount of stars. The ratings are based on our personal opinion and are not tied to any official ratings in Finland. 

The description under each star rating does not guarantee that you will find all the criteria listed in the cabin with the relevant star rating, but is merely an indication to the cabin standard and what to expect regarding amenities and the cabin surrounds.

Criteria for Five Star rating 

  • Cabin has exceptional presentation throughout or has been very recently constructed or refurbished, plus all facilities, fittings, furniture and decor are new or in excellent condition. The cabin has great character or feels special/unique both inside and out. Additional features not usually included in cabin rentals are offered.

  • Cabin has facilities for a very comfortable luxurious stay, such as an indoor WC, large sauna, at least two bedrooms, shower room, fitted kitchen, living room, dining area, washing machine, dishwasher, DVD player and a hairdryer.

  • There are a number of amenities one would expect outside, such as a pier, rowing boat, wood shed, external storage, car heating point, lakeside sauna and a barbeque hut.

  • The cabin is located in an excellent holiday location and offers privacy and wonderful views. The cabin is located on a lake shore, yet also fairly near to shops, a petrol station, organised activities and/or places of interest. Alternatively, the cabin is located in or very near to a ski resort and all its amenities and services.

  • Cabin owners have demonstrated willingness to go that ‘extra mile’ for their customers by helping organise activities etc.  

 Criteria for Four Star rating 

  • Cabin has character or offers additional features not usually included in cabin rentals, plus all facilities, fittings, furniture and decor are in good condition. Good presentation and special touches on decoration throughout.

  • Cabin has all the facilities one would expect within the cabin, including an indoor WC, sauna, at least one bedroom, shower, fitted kitchen, living room, dining area, washing machine and a dishwasher.

  • There are a number of amenities one would expect outside, such as a pier, rowing boat, wood shed, car heating point, external storage, lakeside sauna and a barbeque hut.

  • Cabin is located in a good holiday location and offers privacy and wonderful views. The cabin is located on or near a lake shore, yet also fairly near to shops, a petrol station, organised activities and/or places of interest. Alternatively, the cabin is located in or near to a ski resort and all its amenities and services.

  • Cabin owners are prepared to go that ‘extra mile’ and help organise activities for their customers etc. 

 Criteria for Three Star rating 

  • Good, but rather basic, presentation. All amenities, fittings, furniture and decor are in fairly good condition, but the cabin may be older than those which fall under four or five star ratings.

  • Most of the facilities one would expect within a cabin such as indoor WC, sauna, at least one bedroom, shower, kitchen, living room and a dining area.

  • At least a few amenities one would expect outside, such as a pier, rowing boat, wood shed, car heating point, external storage, lakeside sauna and a barbeque.

  • Cabin is located in a good holiday location, that offers privacy and beautiful views. The cabin is located on or near a lake shore, yet also fairly near to shops, a petrol station, organised activities and/or places of interest. Alternatively, the cabin is located near or within a short driving distance from a ski resort and some additional amenities and services.

  • In rare occasions, tap water might not be suitable for drinking, but will be provided in canisters or can be bought in a local supermarket.

 Criteria for Two Star rating  

  • Fair presentation. Amenities, fittings, furniture and decor are in working condition, but may look dated and cabin may be due for refurbishment. Cabin may be fairly old.

  • Cabin is small and may not include a separate bedroom, an indoor WC, electricity or hot and cold tap water. 

  • Cabin may not include all the amenities one would expect to find outside the cabin, such as a barbeque hut, pier or a rowing boat or these might be shared with another cabin.

  • The cabin is located in a reasonable holiday location near to a lake, but it might be  a relatively long way to shops, a petrol station, organised activities and/or places of interest.

  • Tap water might not be suitable for drinking, but will be provided in canisters or can be bought in a local supermarket.

  • Cabin is ideal for those, who travel on a tight budget or wish to holiday without all the modern conveniences and "get away from it all".
