GUEST REVIEW

"We had a very nice holiday in Finland, which left a vivid impression. The cabin is a lovely place, especially for children. There's a lot of space outside (my son could play football), the house is comfortable and the natural surroundings are beautiful. Personally, I hadn't relaxed as much in years! My family and I would like to return again and again."

            Wes012 - Sunny Cottage
This charming country cottage
is ideal for larger families or two parties sharing as it has two separate living areas and kitchens. The downstairs has an open plan kitchen and dining area, a sitting room that has a piano, utility room, wood burning fireplace, shower room, sauna and a sleeping alcove for two people.

The upstairs has a cosy sitting area with a TV, mini kitchen, large balcony, shower room, double bedroom and two additional attic bedrooms with two mattresses in each. Four extra beds are also available.

The cabin grounds include a barbecue area and a Wendy house for children, while the lake shore about 250m away along a pretty nature trail has a narrow sandy bottomed area suitable for children's paddling with adult supervision.

The cabin is surrounded by fields and peaceful countryside. The nearby farm has friendly sheep, that can be visited and fed from Midsummer to the beginning of August. Horse-riding is available in the stables 15km away.

Cabin amenities:
Wood burning sauna, shower, 2 WCs, washing machine, fireplace and logs, electric oven and hobs, TV, private pier, electric heating, dishwasher, coffee maker, rowing boat, cot, outdoor barbecue, hoover, iron/ironing board, fridge/freezer and a child safety gate in stairs.

A traditional lakeside sauna, that can be used in summer, gives you an ideal opportunity to enjoy the famous Finnish pastime of staying in the heat of the sauna and swimming in the cooling lake in turns for a truly relaxing feeling!

Pets are not allowed, but smoking is not. Bed linen and towels can be hired for €10 per person. Final clean in the cabin can be arranged on your behalf for €140.

Location:
The cabin is located in Kalmari, 65 km from Jyväskylä Airport and 22km from Saarijärvi. A food shop and a bank are located within a few kilometres, while other amenities are also just a short drive away. The lake shore is 250m from the cottage, while the nearest neighbour is another cabin about 40m away.

Children of all ages will love Veijari Activity Park in nearby Saarijärvi. The park has bouncy castles, games, swings, water floats, cute animals to cuddle and lots more. The park is open daily in summer from early June to mid August.

Pyhä-Häkki National Park has ancient trees and untouched forests, as well as many rare birds, insects and plants. Enjoy a leisurely hike along the clearly marked nature trails for fresh air and beautiful scenery.

Julmat Lammit Conservation Park is also worth a visit for its fantastically rugged terrain, dark forests and deep ridges, that are pierced by beautiful clear lakes. Both parks are located near Saarijärvi town, that also has a few good canoeing trails, if you wish to take to the water.

Jyväskylä 65km away offers an ideal day trip destination with its department stores, restaurants, cafes and a pretty harbour, from where you can take a cruise on Lake Päijänne, the longest and the deepest lake in Finland. If you are interested in architecture, look out for the work designed by Alvar Aalto, the famous Finnish architect and a former resident in the town.

The nearest ski resort is Paavonrinteet 24km away. This small resort has toboggan hills for children, 5 ski slopes for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing tracks and a halfpipe for snowboarders. All ski equipment can be rented from the resort's own rental shop, while a cafe serves hot drinks and snacks. The resort is suitable for beginners and families.

Visit Ähtäri Zoo 94km away and see over 300 animals native to the Nordic region. Expect to catch a glimpse of a lynx, wolverine, moose, wolf and the brown bear couple Santeri and Santra. The Zoo is open daily year round.
