We strongly recommend that you pre-book all your safaris as demand can be very high particularly in December and during the peak ski season from February to March. Pre-booking will also allow you to plan your holiday better, as you will not have to waste precious holiday time locally at the resort trying to arrange safaris for your party at the last minute. We are partnered with experienced local safari companies and can easily pre-book all your preferred safaris prior to your departure to Finland, so you can concentrate on enjoying your holiday in Finland. Ylläs includes two villages of Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi. Most pre-booked safaris in both locations include complimentary car transfers between the safari departure point and your accommodation. Child prices in Äkäslompolo vary according to season and entitle a child on snowmobile safaris to a place in a sled pulled by a snowmobile which will be driven by the safari guide. The peak season prices apply 1 December 2010-11 January 2011. Child prices in Ylläsjärvi entitle a child on snowmobile safaris to share a snowmobile with an adult or to sit in a sled pulled by a snowmobile which will be driven by the safari guide.

Exciting trip for the whole family through snowy woods along a path lit by candles and lanterns to Santa's very own cabin where you will have an opportunity to make Christmas decorations to take home and write your name and your wish list for presents on Santa's secret Christmas Book. One of Santa's elves will then take each family to meet the man himself and each child will also receive a small present. Tobogganing is also possible. Gingerbread biscuits and hot berry juice will be available for all guests during the visit. Transfers are either by snowmobile (driving distance approx. 30km return) or car. This is your ideal opportunity to learn to cross-country ski in Finland. You will be taught the cross-country skiing techniques and once you have learned the basics, you will try skiing along well-maintained cross-country skiing tracks in Yllas. Begin this thrilling adventure by driving out across the snowy Finnish landscape as far as the reindeer fence. You will then meet the reindeer herder who will take you for an unforgettable reindeer ride through the forest. After the ride you will stop to rest in a warm Lappish tepee and have a hot drink. The reindeer herder will then tell you about reindeer husbandry. After this stop, will then head back to Yllasjarvi by snowmobile. This activity lasts around 4 hours. After a 30 minute transfer to the husky camp, you will be shown everything you need to know to handle your own husky sled team. Short breaks will be taken in the forest with time to take photos and to enjoy some hot drinks and snacks to keep you going. Later you will arrive at a wilderness camp and enjoy a lunch by the open fire. After a delicious meal, the journey continues. You will be back at the husky camp before sunset, where you still have the chance to learn more about these magnificent animals. Afterwards, return to your accommodation with a certificate that proves your skills as a dog-team handler.
